The first single from the album "Lifelines" was sent to radio stations in parts of Europe on 22nd February 2002 (15th April in Belgium) and was released commercially on 2nd April. The cover of the commercial release features a closeup shot of the black front end of a 50's Cadillac standing on flatland. The a-ha logo in dark red is in the top right hand corner of the sleeve with the title in black letters underneath. The reverse of the sleeve features more flatland which has been fenced off with small blue and white wooden panel. The sky is blue grey above with the a-ha logo in white letters at the top and track information in black underneath. The disc itself is a picture disc, showing the steering wheel and dash board photographed from inside the car. The a-ha logo is in silver at the bottom of the disc with title in white underneath. The photographs used on this single were taken by Andy Frank.
The four track single was released in many European countries around 2nd April (8th April in Norway). It features the tracks: Forever Not Yours (4:06 - differs slightly from the album version with less backing vocals on the last chorus), Differences (2:47) (Original Demo), Hunting High And Low (7:07) (Live In Oslo) and Manhattan Skyline (6:14) (Live In Oslo).
Note: The single of "Forever Not Yours" was not released in the UK. Instead, "Lifelines" was the first single in the UK.The 1 track radio promo features a radio edit of "Forever Not Yours" (3:53). The cover features a side view shot of a cream coloured car which has been painted with a black, green and pink pattern. The a-ha logo has been printed in white letters in the centre and the title in black underneath. The reverse of the sleeve is black with white text. The disc is white with a large black a-ha logo and title at the top. Additional text is printed in black at the bottom.
Some copies of the German promo come with a 2-sided information sheet by wea. The sheet gives additional information on the new album (in German) plus some TV promotion dates.
There is a 1-track German promo "Safety Copy" which comes in a slimline jewel case with white paper insert and black text. It features the "Michael B Version" (3:59).
Brazil: There is a special 5 track promo of Forever Not Yours advertising the August tour of Brazil. The cover is dark red with a-ha printed in large thin white letters across the middle of the sleeve. "tour brasil - agosto 2002" is printed in black letters underneath. Tracks: Forever Not yours / Take On Me / You Are The One / Crying in the Rain / Hunting High and Low (Live in Oslo).
Denmark: The German one track promotional CD was also used to promote the single in Denmark. The reverse of the jewel case includes a large "Warner Music Denmark" information sticker with release date listed as 02-04-02 and track listed as Fade 03:41 min.
Israel: The 4 track and 1 track promo German CDs were used for promotion in Israel. Although the CDs are identical to the German releases, they have a couple of information stickers stuck on the front of the sleeve.
Norway: A two track single was available in Norway. It features similar artwork to the 4 track CD, but comes in a card wallet sleeve. It features only the title track and the original demo of Differences.
Sweden: The two track single was also available in Sweden - released 22nd April.
